GWCA’s next event is June 21st. Alderman Pawar is our speaker and will discuss GROW Community and k-12 education. June 21, 6:45 pm at Warner Park.  Elections for three 18-month Council seats will happen that night.  GWCA is an all volunteer organization.  Please consider serving on our council.  Contact Janice, jhorwich@sbcglobal.net for information.  June 21st is also Summer Solstice, so we’ll celebrate together.  Please bring a “home made finger food appetizer, main dish or dessert” dish for the potluck.  GWCA will supply papergoods and bottled water.  Please join us and meet Alderman Pawar on June 21st!  All Graceland West residents are encouraged to attend.

GWCA launched summer early with the “Mr. Dave” Kids Concert June 11th at Warner Park. Weather was in the 80’s with a gentle breeze for the 10 am concert.  40 adults and about 30 children, mostly two months to three years participated.  Families sat in shade on blankets or on the garden wall and the kids hopped, sang, danced and listened through the concert.   The concert was fantastic and was followed by babysitter networking.  Two entrepreneurial and experienced babysitters participated and will enjoy solid work the balance of the year.  If there is a babysitter in your household, they can still participate.  Just contact Chenin, chenin.kienzler@gmail.com  or Laurie, l.gillman@sbcglobal.net.  We expect some new play groups will also seed from the event.

Over the past two years, Lake View High School has grown tremendously. From improvements in student achievement and school facilities to shared values, students and staff know Lake View High School is HOME.

HOME is about people, not a place. And, through collective efforts, the LVHS staff accomplished many improvements for students, including but not limited to, increases in College Enrollment, Early College Credit Attainment, Freshmen On Track, and the 5Essentials. It has been an honor to participate in this success serving as principal and growing together as lifelong learners to foster honor, ownership, mastery, and education.

 

These are significant achievements and great gains for you as students and families realized through hard work and collective responsibility. With teamwork, I am confident such gains will continue for LVHS. Therefore, I have decided this will be my last year as principal of Lake View High School. Effective June 30^th, 2016, I will pursue a new learning opportunity as principal of an Elementary School.

 

As a teacher, coach, and principal, I put my heart and soul into Lake View High School and have many to thank for ongoing support, such as our students, staff, parents, family, aldermen, community members, Chicago Public Schools, Chicago leadership, and community partners. In the coming days, I will engage the Local School Council and CPS Network 2 in planning next steps in this transition.

 

I commend our hardworking students and staff, as well as the support of the community, for exhibiting prideful school spirit and perseverance in solidifying Lake View High School as Chicago’s Premier Neighborhood High School. I look forward to the continued accomplishments of LVHS and each of our students in preparing for college, career, and community commitment. LVHS is HOME.
