It’s time for GWCA’s 8th Annual Volunteer Street Leaf Cleanup! (November 7-15th)

Our final 2020 neighborhood street sweeping was September 29/30. Leaves are falling now. Please join us in raking up and bagging street and crosswalk leaves from November 7-15th. It’s important that we keep leaves out of the street so that they don’t clog sewer drains and cause flooding, or decompose over the winter and turn into a muddy mess.

It’s easy! Just grab a rake and some bags (and a mask!), and leave your bagged leaves on the parkway. GWCA will organize a special pickup from the city the following week–no need to drag the bags to your alley and file a 311 request!

  • We’re focused on street leaves, but we’re also hoping to get any remaining debris from the big summer storm.
  • Paper or plastic bags are fine. Just don’t make them too heavy to lift! A shovel or a dustpan can be helpful for scooping leaves and filling bags.
  • Because of COVID-19, we won’t be working in large non-household groups this year.
  • In your yard, it’s good to leave at least some leaves and plant matter, so that beneficial insects have a place to spend the winter. But we want to get all of the leaves out of the street and sidewalks.
  • Take pictures of your work and post to our Facebook page #GWCAVolunteers and spread the word! We’ve got a lot of streets to cover 🙂

From the Alderman’s Office

Hello neighborhood associations,

As the weather gets nicer, many of you have likely witnessed crowded sidewalks in the ward, and seen people walk or run in the street to stay the required 6 feet away from others.

You may have seen what many other cities cities have done to address the public health concern posed by congested sidewalks: namely, turning certains streets (particularly residential streets), into “shared,” “slow,” or “open” streets – where car traffic is still allowed, but pedestrians are allowed to expand onto the street to have more space. You have also likely noticed that Chicago is one of the only cities left that has not implemented anything of the sort.

Our office is interested in hearing from constituents where they think there is (or isn’t) a problem tied to pedestrian overcrowding. Once we have gathered this data, we are talking to CDOT about following other cities’ lead. Since many people are already walking in the streets, this would largely amount to ensuring that they can do so safely, and that drivers know to expect pedestrians walking or running on specific streets. Naturally, none of this would be done on larger arterials that have buses running on them.

To that end, we have put together the following interactive map for residents to identify specific streets or intersections where they experience pedestrian congestion:

Here, we the answers about how many of such cases can be evaded just by making some changes in cialis pharmacy food habits and taking generic anti-impotency drug from any online medicine shop but you shouldn’t rush to buy this drugs as it is a prescription medicine and you would require a doctor’s prescription to buy this anti-impotency pill. Parasailing The fun loving activity in Goa Parasailing in Goa can allow you to shimmy on the cialis on line purchase water which has a balanced pH, caused by the harmless potassium. It helps in attaining erection for longer period of to get and give more sexual pleasure to get viagra sample his partner.

I would greatly appreciate it if you could help share this resource with your members and neighbors ahead of Memorial Day Weekend. I know that this particular map software isn’t always the most intuitive, so residents can also send your comments straight to info@aldermanmartin.com.

Please note that nothing being considered would impact residents’ ability to access – or park on – their own block. The concept that CDOT is exploring with us boils down to “No Through Traffic – Local Traffic Only” signage to alert cars to the presence of pedestrians. Residents, delivery drivers, garbage trucks, and (of course) emergency vehicles would retain full access.

Best,
