It’s important that we keep leaves out of the street so that they don’t clog sewer drains and cause flooding\, or decompose over the winter and turn into a muddy mess. Frozen leaves become icy making it difficult to shovel around cars and making streets and sidewalk crossings hazardous. Chip in to make the community safer for everyone. \nIt’s easy! Just grab a rake and some bags (and a mask!)\, and leave your bagged leaves on the parkway. GWCA will organize a special pickup from the city the following week–no need to drag the bags to your alley and file a 311 request! \n\nWe’re focused on street leaves\, but we’re also hoping to get any remaining debris from the big summer storm.\nPaper or plastic bags are fine. Just don’t make them too heavy to lift! A shovel or a dustpan can be helpful for scooping leaves and filling bags.\nBecause of COVID-19\, we won’t be working in large non-household groups this year.\nIn your yard\, it’s good to leave at least some leaves and plant matter\, so that beneficial insects have a place to spend the winter.
