Garden Walk, August 2. LVHS tour cancelled

Sunday, August 2nd update. The GWCA Garden Walk starts at noon. Maps are available at 4334 North Greenview (at Pensacola). We apologize, but The Lake View High School Architectural Tour is cancelled this year.

2nd Last Call for Garden Walk

The deadline for participating will be this Wed. July 29, at 6PM. If you are participating please email or call me if you are planning to attend our 6 PM Gardener’s dinner at Andie’s restaurant that same evening. I need to have this count by the same date. Gardener and one guest will attend compliments of GWCA. If you are not in the Garden Walk, but care to attend the dinner, the charge will be $15. There will be a cash bar that evening. Look for a list of the participating gardens online at the Graceland Community Association website. Let’s hope we have beautiful weather.

Start at 4334 N Greenview for the Garden Walk or anywhere with a sign out front you come across. Maps will be available at every participating garden.

Don’t miss Principal Gren’s private tour of LVHS original architecture at 2:30 part of Graceland West and CPS history. This is a great opportunity to support your community high school and learn about its history.

Annual Graceland West Garden Walk

Dear Gardeners,

Our 33rd annual Graceland West Garden Walk will be Sunday,
August 2 from 12-5. We will have a Master Garden table with gardening literature
and an insect petting zoo. There will be a tour of Lakeview High School given by
the Principal. At six o’clock there will be a gardener’s dinner at Andies

restaurant for the gardener and guest. This event is one we really enjoy in our
community. If you would like to show your garden, front or back or both please

Holiday weekend crime prevention

Hi GWCA. Have a great 4th!!

Call 911 IMMEDIATELY TO REPORT CRIME OR SUSPICIOUS ACTIVITY. DESCRIBE SUSPECTS HEAD TO TOE – Concentrate on one distinct feature!
• Crime in progress
• Suspicious person. Could be in a parked car (street or alley)
• Someone checking out houses, yards or cars (could even be posing as
dog walkers trying to blend in as neighbors)
• ANYONE at your door with a scam or sob story requesting money. Yes,
donate to charity, just never at your door.
• An unknown group gathering
• Cars speeding or “racing” on a street or alley – get plate number
if possible
REPORT ALL CRIME: Police analyze arrests, incidents and patterns.
REPORT ALL GRAFFITI: Use the Chicago Works app. Photo graffiti and email to 311 with the address. Apply anti-graffiti coating to tempting surfaces. we’re noticing some very tiny graffiti. Please report it and get it off.
LOOK OUT FOR YOUR NEIGHBORS: Make new friends. Check on each other. Look at their house, yard and the street. Clear newspapers and flyers.
LINE OF SIGHT: Don’t obscure home entry points behind a privacy fence, shrubs or trees. Eliminate hiding spots.
PORCH LIGHTS ON DUSK TO DAWN: Add motion activated lights to your rear and side yards. Report street or alley lights out.

DON’T LEAVE YOUR HOUSE DARK: Use timers. Someone on the side walk, in the alley or at your door should think you’re home.
CREATE A PHONE TREE: Neighbors on four sides
ALWAYS SECURE YOUR HOUSE, APARTMENT AND GARAGE: Use ventilation locks on windows. Lock your door when you’re gardening and raking and re-lock when you come inside.
SECURE YOUR BELONGINGS: Financial records, computers, jewelry, bicycles, ladders etc.
STREET SMARTS: Don’t advertise – Don’t show ear buds or phone. Lock your vehicle while driving.
PHOTOGRAPH AND INVENTORY YOUR PROPERTY: Keep a copy of your inventory off site. Inscribe your driver’s license number on electronics. Back-up your computer and keep a copy off site. 19th District CAPS has bicycle registration forms, or register at www.chicagopolice.org.
