BIG WHACK: Man Beaten, Robbed Near Wrigley Field

The latest additions to the weekend’s list of muggings:

• A man was beaten by three men and robbed of a credit card across the street from Wrigley Field at 5:15 this morning. The victim was near the McDonald’s parking lot at 3620 N. Clark when the offenders began the attack.

All three offenders were black men, one of whom had two-tone hair: blonde on top, black on the sides. The three were last seen heading southbound on Clark in a blue Toyota.

An ambulance transported the victim to Thorek Hospital.

• An Uptown man was beaten and robbed of his iPhone, wallet, and inhaler near Clarendon and Buena at 3 o’clock this morning. The victim told officers that two black men in their 20’s approached, beat him up, and took his property. Both offenders stand about 5’10” tall and both wore bandanas. One wore a red shirt and the other wore a black shirt.

• A man borrowed a woman’s phone to call 911 after he was reportedly robbed at gunpoint near Addison and Ashland at about 3:10AM today. The man gave detailed descriptions of the offenders, but he was no longer on the scene when officers arrived, so no report was filed. The suspect descriptions are:
1) male, black, gray hoodie, black shorts, black shoes
2) male, black, early 20’s puffy red sweater, black shirt, black shorts, gym shoes, armed with a gun
Both suspects were last seen eastbound on Addison. The victim was last seen heading westbound according to the woman who helped him out.

Oh, for everyones information, private security guards have No police powers. About the only thing they can do is call 9-1-1 and hope to get a response in an hour or two.

Private security officers possess the same lawful authority to make an arrest as any other private citizen. They similarly possess the same lawful authority to use the force necessary to effect that arrest.

I thought the story about the guy who borrowed a woman’s phone to call 911 was going to end with the guy walking off with her phone…but then again I guess I’ve just become jaded and cynical due to all the crime.

Why don’t the police consider setting up some decoys and arresting the perps? Seems like every second person walking around at 3am gets mugged.

“last seen heading southbound on Clark” There is a CPD high res camera at Clark and Addison which, if in operation, should have captured the get away and maybe even the crime. But who has time to review the video? I wonder if CPD will ever make their surveillance cameras public? More eyeballs all the time. the1stmikec
