At least four separate robberies at gunpoint were reported in our neighborhood between 10PM last night and 2AM Saturday morning, according to police. No one is in custody.

Officers believe some of the hold-ups are related to a similar incident that took place early Friday morning in nearby Lincoln Park.

Here is what we know:

#1

At 10:08PM Friday night, two Edgewater residents were robbed at gunpoint in the 1000 block of W. Belmont. According to the victims, the hold-up was committed by four individuals in a dark sedan, one of whom had a black semi-automatic handgun.

The four offenders were black—three males and one female. One of the men has short dreadlocks, stands about 5’7″ tall, and was wearing a white tee shirt and jeans.

They were last seen driving southbound on Kenmore.

#2

Seven minutes later, a victim reported being robbed at gunpoint near Southport and Grace by two black men who were armed with a hand gun. One of the offenders was shirtless and the other was wearing a white tank top, the victim said.

The robbers fled westbound on Grace, where a resident independently reported seeing suspicious men in a gangway. Both offenders were then seeing running southbound in the east alley of Southport.

About 15 minutes later, another witness reported seeing two men matching the description near Clark and Grace, where the pair emptied out a wallet before fleeing.

#3

A man was robbed at gunpoint on the street near Melrose restaurant in Boystown at 1:56 this morning. That victim reported that three black men in a light gray minivan produced a black semi-automatic handgun, took his valuables, and then drove away toward Halsted Street on Melrose.

The offenders got $20 and a Ventra card from the victim. But, the victim managed to grab one of the offenders’ cell phones—or, at least, a cell phone that was in the offender’s possession. We wouldn’t be so bold as to presume that the thug actually bought the phone.

#4

Six minutes later, a man reported being robbed at gunpoint by two men who occupied a minivan near Aldine and Lake Shore Drive.

This victim, who was also punched by the muggers, described one offender as black with an Afro and a scruffy beard. One gunman wore a black sweatshirt with black pants while the other wore a gray sweatshirt with gray pants.

Officers transported the victim to Illinois Masonic Medical Center for treatment.

Possible Connections

Police believe that the first robbery is related to another hold-up that took place near Clark and Fullerton at 4AM Friday.

In that case, a couple walked into a nearby 7-Eleven to report that offenders in a dark sedan pulled up, produced a gun, and took their wallets and a Samsung S4. The offenders fled in the vehicle, which was occupied by two black men and one black woman.

The woman had short hair and was wearing a white t-shirt with jeans.

About a half-hour before the hold-up, a victim called 911 from the 1000 block of Sheffield to report that a black man wearing a white t-shirt and blue shorts pulled up in a dark vehicle and pointed a gun at him. The victim fled the scene in a cab before police arrived and no report was immediately filed. It is not known if the victim had also been robbed.
