On Saturday, August 23rd, about 70 people including neighbors, parents, grandparents, teachers, students, community members (including a dozen from Graceland West) and leaders from several other neighborhood organizations, the LVHS LSC, Alderman Pawar and others joined Principal Scott Grens for the Lake View High School Beautification Day. Rep. Ann Williams and Friends of Ameya Pawar (PAC) donated the paint. Lake View Partners, the newly launched non-profit to support Lake View and Grow 47, Alderman Pawar’s initiative for schools sponsored the event.

Volunteers were organized into small teams and then painted the interior front entrance, library and several other rooms, moved in new equipment and furniture, cleaned all the lockers, removed any remaining tape left over from the prior school year, washed windows, moved landscaping stones and more. There were about 20 major projects. The exterior burgundy of the school didn’t get repainted because of rain, but other projects were substituted. The school was already gleaming when we got there, but the finishing touches we did will really make students feel welcome. After 4 hours of work, the projects were done and we met up for lunch.
