GWCA 32nd Garden Walk – August 3rd

Hi neighbors, our 32nd annual Graceland West Garden Walk will be Sunday, Aug. 3rd, from noon to 5 p.m. If you want to participate please email me at, tell me if you will be exhibiting your back and/or front garden and include your name, address, email and a phone number.  It is still very early to commit, but if you know now that you will be participating I am starting to collect names.

Many neighbors and gardeners mention the anual Garden Walk is their favorite GWCA event and that they invite friends, family and coworkers to enjoy the day with them. Whether you’ll be sharing your garden and or visiting gardens please put August 3rd on your calendar.  We had more than 50 gardens and beautiful weather last year.  Thank you.

From Scott M. Grens, Lake View High School Principal

Dear Lake View Parents, Family, and Community Members:

It is with great pride that I accept the position to serve as principal for Lake View High School, a school rich in history with a bright future. In the recent transition to Lake View High School, I reached outward to learn from our broad school community by meeting with many stakeholders; the voices of our neighborhood are speaking of the potential to achieve even more greatness together for the school community.

At Lake View, we are committed to providing high-quality educational opportunities for the students of Chicago with an understanding that education is a profession of service for our community. This summer, Lake View High School has partnered with FUSE and Mikva Challenge to offer “The Lake View Experience,” a unique opportunity specifically for students from Lake View High School feeder schools in grades 6, 7, and 8. Students will create their own path in problem solving in areas of Civics in the City of Chicago and Technology. If interested in participating in this program from August 11th to August 21st, please visit our website at

I see many similar accomplishments ahead for Lake View High School and encourage your collaboration. Together, we will engage the community, nurture partnerships, learn from one another, and build upon the many achievements of our students. I know you are committed to this common mission; I look forward to your ongoing involvement.

Thank you in advance for your support of the future of Lake View High School. Go Wildcats!

LVHS Autumn Fair Planning

Hello All,

Today, I met with the event planner of the Green Metropolis Fair and Assistant Principal Varney at Lake View to discuss the proposal of bringing an autumn event of this type to our neighborhood. Over the past 5 yrs. Mary Beth Rebedeau has developed this spring event into a successful, educational and resource-filled day for the entire family. The proposal is to create the first ever Autumn Fair in the same spirit. Here is the link from their spring event, so you can see the gist of what this will look like: Their date is already set for the 2015 Spring Fair!

We are pleased that, Lake View High School will host this event on Sunday, September 14th. Please mark your calendar, tell your friends and family! This is will be a fun-filled day that folks of all ages will enjoy and learn something from.

Although the programming for the event is pretty much set, we would love to have your participation. As with all large events, volunteers will be needed; perhaps you would also like a table to introduce GWCA to the attendees. We are thinking that a table for all of the neighborhood groups might be a good out-reach tool.

Looking forward to working with you!
