The Chicago Film Office has informed us that there will be a film crew in your neighborhood on Thursday, December 19. No Parking/Tow Zone signs will be posted on Greenview between Warner & Berteau, from 7am-7pm, for the many trucks that will be necessary for the shoot. Please let your neighbors know, so that they are aware of the parking restrictions.

Thank You GWCA Volunteers

Thanks volunteers!

23 leaf cleanup volunteers made a big impact on GWCA street leaves yesterday despite bone chilling temperatures and snow.

Kristine and James, Brad, Paul, Bruce and Daniel, Josh, Jason, Janice, Greeta and Toby on Belle Plaine. Greeta, we’re sorry for missing the cookies you made for us. Thanks for cleaning mid block. The other 9 volunteers tackled 400′ of Belle Plaine including the Belle Plaine / Greenview intersection. Sewer drains were winter sealed under 4″ of concrete like matted and frozen leaves. Leaves had to be hacked with shovels to reveal drains or the street. Then each section of grate had to be chiseled of leaves and debris. Special thanks to Daniel, who at 8 brought much muscle, tenacity and sunshine.

The same conditions were found on Cullom. Tom, Kathleen, Maggie, Liza, Michael, Carla, Rachel, Sadie, Mark, Linda and their dog Lucy, thanks for your work on Cullom including unclogging another street drain. (Photo is of Cullom volunteers)

On Pensacola, Claire and Kathy tackled the Pensacola / Greenview intersection. Much work for just two.

Also thanks to the other neighbors who cleaned the street of leaves in front of their own or neighbor’s homes. All efforts of cleaning street leaves and liberating sewers will reduce annual flooding from leaves.

Hope to see you all at next GWCA meeting and annual cookie exchange on Sunday, December 15th at 4117 North Greenview. Please RSVP Barb Sullivan at 773.327.2940. Cookie exchange is at 2 pm with the GWCA meeting at 3 pm. If you bring cookies, I found bagging two dozen in a bag yields great variety.

Also, please fill out the annual 47th Ward Block Audit due to Alderman Pawar by December 28. Here’s a link. Please scroll down to the form. http://gracelandwest.org/

Reminder: Street Leaf Clean Up Sunday December 8

REMINDER: NEIGHBORHOOD STREET LEAF CLEAN UP SUNDAY, DECEMBER 8 11 AM
Thanks in advance to all who are helping. Your effort on a very cold day immediately before forcasted snow is very appreciated.
If you aren’t scheduled on your street, please come to Belle Plaine and Greenview and we’ll assign you an intersection. Bring 15 leaf bags and a shovel or rake for frozen leaves.

Streets and San said we can bag intersection leaves and leave them at the intersection curbs. All other bags of leaves need to be put in the alleys for pickup as usual.
They will pick up the intersection bags after Monday, but need to know which intersections. Please email jhorwich@sbcglobal.net to let me know which Greenview intersections have bagged leaves.
You can also email leaf cleanup photos to share on the GWCA website. (Jimm Poole, with Alderman Pawar, thank you for getting S&S to help us).

December 8 Leaf Cleanup Date – We Need Your Help

GWCA Leaf Cleanup Sunday December 8, 11 AM

GWCA is encouraging all to bundle up and come out on Sunday, December 8th at 11 am and say “bye” to moldy leaves and flooded intersections. Leaves that came down after our final 2013 street sweeping will clog crosswalks and sewers, make it difficult for seniors, disabled residents and parents with strollers to navigate and will cause flooded crosswalks and intersections. If you want to help (but haven’t committed to help Cullom or Belle Plaine), please meeet at Belle Plaine and Greenview for a crosswalk / intersection assignment. Wear very warm clothes and gloves. Bring a shovel or rake and 15 leaf bags. For help organizing your own block, contact Linda Litner lindalitner@mac.com or Jan Horwich jhorwich@sbcglobal.net

PS If you can clean up the street leaves in front of your house, condo, apartment or other before Sunday, that will be great!
